Doreen was always interested in art, taking classes at the Currier Museum Art School, and being creative whenever she could. In 2000, she began pastel painting, and joined art groups to further her interests. In 2005 she was determined to try Oil Painting, she studied at the New Hampshire Institute of Art and realized this was the medium for her.
She enjoys the freshness of painting with oils – the thickness of the paints, the effects achieved with the brush which are exciting. Nocturnal city-scapes, capture her attention to create the movement of night with strong color, values, lights and shadows, drawing the viewer into the painting for a closer look.
No matter where she is, she always looks for new subjects to paint. In her travels - photos and notes are taken, as references for future works done in the studio. Some of her works are done Plein-Aire. She paints quickly with the light of day, trying not to fuss and capturing an immediate response to her observation.
Her works are in corporate and private collections throughout the Northeast and Canada.
“The beautiful is in nature, and it is encountered under the most diverse forms of reality. Once it is found it belongs to art, or rather to the artist who discovers it.” Gustave Courbet
"It's not what you do, it's the way you do it that makes you an artist. Whatever you do... do it with all your heart. Be what you are... Be creative!" Denny Dent
